Sand Planes House

Location

Northern Beaches, Australia

Land

Kuring-gai

Phase

Construction 2024

Size

400 sqm

This is a new home, built primarily in carpentry construction within the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Conceived as a permanent residence for a professional couple and large family, it contains five bedrooms and radiates around an external dining area, food being the centre of their professional life.

It provides respite from exposure of the pool garden to the West. The home is an exploration in edge conditions, with a single masonry wall punctuated with privacy screens opening to the Northern neighbour, various eaves and overhangs to the East and West and a Southern shade garden.

The house has a modernity to its expression; simple, formal and materially earnest in wood, brick and painted lining boards. Robust, highly rational and vernacular.
