Boulder House is the new construction of a cascading six bedroom home in Sydney’s Lower North Shore. The home is conceived as ‘belonging to the landscape’, and we worked to preserve the various sandstone outcrops that give the home its name and that had enthralled the client.
The new house is built with a sweeping roof line which coordinates the various view-sharing corridors and tree protection zones, whilst providing for the water views out to its North East, and minimising the hard stand often present at the street connection.
Whilst each room has access to water views, the home is also materially rich; textured masonry, glass block, planted terraces and open grained timber joinery give the home a sense of permanency, and a spiralling concrete stair is grooved into the northernmost boulder giving direct access from the upper level to its garden and new pool.
