This charming freestanding cottage in Sydney underwent a transformative construction and refurbishment to accommodate a young family. The design explores a harmonious relationship with the adjoining landscape through the operation of various facades.
The ground floor unfolds into a spacious living area, kitchen/dining space, casual family living zone, guestroom, and a convenient laundry/bathroom. Sliding doors seamlessly connect this open-plan extension to the garden, fostering a sense of openness.
A strategic shift in flooring materials demarcates interior and exterior spaces to create a cohesive flow. The relocation of sleeping quarters to upper levels effectively turned the house upside down to enhance the overall spatial dynamics. The project navigates the challenge of blending existing architecture with new elements, resulting in a visually stunning, light-filled, and functionally sophisticated home with a robust yet feminine palette.
