The Bakehouse, Ayrburn

Commercial

Location

Queenstown, New Zealand

Type

Commercial

Completion

2024

Designed in collaboration with SA Studio, The Bakehouse and R.M Prime Produce is a new build in the Ayrburn precinct and required a unique approach to seamlessly complement the remediated heritage buildings but allow it to have its own identity and presence.

The Bakehouse caters to breakfast, lunch and dinner, and everything in between with woodfired pizzas, handmade pasta and pastries on offer all day. Under the same roof, is world class butcher (R.M Prime Produce), Ayrburn wine, fresh bread and flowers grown on site.

The design intention celebrates makers: joinery, light fittings, furniture - each contributing to a whole. Every surface whispers intention. Every texture tells a story. Vintage pieces sit alongside aged materials and quirky details that breathe history into every corner.

"We particularly enjoyed the shop drawing process with the joiner, a careful study of operational needs with integration of state-of-the-art equipment and endless material sample testing, hunting for the perfect texture and stain. We had a particular focus on our choice of marble and loved developing unique profiles for each counter."
